In video games, we are only limited in what we can do by the imagination of the video games artists. But in the real world, our dreams and our productivity are too often constrained by our budgets and our deadlines. This is especially true when you need the best Video Games Artists for your project. The biggest selling games, with their incredible immersive worlds, are the work of many talented artists, designers and programmers each experienced and up to date in the latest tech. In the west, that kind of talent doesn’t come cheap. But Vietnam not only has far lower staffing costs, it’s animation and VFX talents are world leaders in their fields.
That’s why many of the worlds top gaming companies are moving to Vietnam to get their projects made. Check out the credits on top selling titles such as ‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops’ or ‘Apex Legends and you’ll see Vietnamese names were behind much of the artwork.
Ubisoft Moves To Vietnam
In December 2019 gaming giants Ubisoft, the company behind such classic titles as The Assassin’s Creed franchise, announced it was opening a full time studio in Vietnam, Ubisoft Danang. The studio will focus on mobile gaming and instant games for social media platforms such as Facebook or Snapchat. A team of up to a hundred full time artists and coders will work with Ubisoft’s mobile platform developers in markets across the world. Working with Vietnamese designers will allow them to develop multiplied games in multiple languages for different audiences whereas before this would have been constrained by needing so many artists.
Why Choose Vietnam?
Vietnam is a young vibrant country. Being here, you can feel the urgency and dynamism of the place. The people here are young and motivated. They are well educated, the government has invested heavily in recent years in higher education, especially in subjects such software development. Young people here see learning how to code as a way of securing a good future for themselves and their families.
The Vietnamese are also major gamers themselves. In 2018 it was the second largest market for game downloads in South East Asia and the first in terms of revenues. Over half of this revenue comes from locally developed mobile games. Thousands of app developers across the country are working on independent mobile games, hoping to follow the success of Nguyen Ha Dong, the creator of ‘Flappy Birds’.
The Talent is In Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in Vietnam and its most important economically. Over a fifth of the country’s total GDP comes from there. It’s a cosmopolitan and modern city, linked closely into the beating heart of the global economy. It’s where most foreign companies working in Vietnam are based, it’s where most exports are sent from, and it’s where young people across the country move to after university to make it big.
And it’s not just games developers who are benefiting from Vietnamese talent to increase their productivity and keep costs down, many other industries you might not expect are too. 3D mapping developers here are being used for example by the oil and gas industry to assist in visualization.
Hundreds of companies here working across all aspects of computer animation and VFX draw the talent to the city, and this large pool of skilled and artists draws companies from across the world here.
Hollywood In Ho Chi Minh
Major Hollywood studios as well are moving VFX and animation work on to production partners in Vietnam. Marvel blockbusters heavily reliant on CGI such as ‘Thor Ragnork’ and ‘Captain America: Civil War’ use Vietnamese VFX artists in Ho Chi Minh City, as did “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. Films like that have budgets that would dwarf small countries. They aren’t working with Vietnamese artists because they need to save costs. They are doing it because they want to work with the best.
You don’t need to be working on a production with a Hollywood budget for working with Vietnamese video games artists to make sense. Whatever the project you need skilled video games artists for, we at Remote Resources have the talent you need to bring your project in on time, under budget and most importantly: it will look fantastic.
